Waterloo Village should

not close its doors To the Editor: As a vehicle for local tourism in Sussex County and surrounding areas, the demise of this historic and entertainment center known as Waterloo Village is indeed a blight for this region, and a serious loss of a valuable attraction. The administration in Trenton should step in, if it believes that tourism can be a vehicle for economic growth, and certainly for job development. I personally have been to a myriad number of shows and events at that center, including an event for Bill Bradley, two rock concerts featuring the Moody Blues, and Bob Dylan, classical music concerts and music fests, and a variety of ethnic shows, and have also appreciated the historical significance and milieu of Waterloo Village. Like that proverbial parking lot in a recent John Mayer song; if nothing is done to rekindle this park; it will indeed fall into ruin or become another parking lot in a growing retail center. After all, we lost automobile plants and gladly built retail outlets with low prices, as one box store notes, and also offer lower wages in the bargain in areas where we should have considered some other choices. Life should not be about shopping till you drop; there is the spirit and the soul that need comfort. Culture does indeed give us character. Save Waterloo Village, Governor Corzine or someone with compassion and commonsense in order that he have some variety of entertainment besides golf on every parcel in this region, and again have pride in the quality of life that a Waterloo Village brings to the surrounding community.
