Author Kelly Catlin will visit The Vinyl Chapter in Newton on Sept. 6 for an afternoon celebrating her upcoming Kurt Cobain biography, with proceeds from an on-site poster sale benefiting Ginnie’s House Children’s Advocacy Center and a community food drive.

The free event, “Come As You Are,” will run from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at The Vinyl Chapter, 221 Spring St., and will feature music, conversation and an author question-and-answer session.

Catlin’s book, “Kurt Cobain: Forever in Bloom — The Legacy Beyond the Tragedy,” will be released this fall by Skyhorse Publishing in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of Nirvana’s “Nevermind.”

According to the release, the book looks beyond the tragedy and speculation surrounding Cobain’s life. Catlin draws on interviews with friends, bandmates, managers, recording engineers and other musicians to present a portrait of Cobain focused on his life and legacy.

The event schedule includes a meet-and-greet and book presale from 2 to 3 p.m. Guests who pre-order the book will receive a “Forever in Bloom” customer sticker and a signed sticker plate.

Live acoustic music featuring ’90s and alternative favorites will be performed from 3 to 4 p.m., followed by an author Q&A from 4 to 4:30 p.m.

Attendees also are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations for a community food drive. Those who donate will receive a free music sticker.

Posters will be sold throughout the event, with proceeds benefiting Ginnie’s House Children’s Advocacy Center. The author also is donating 100% of her profits from the book to charity.
