Upgrades. The Sussex County Commissioners on March 23 approved a $2.8 million bond ordinance for improvements at Sussex County Community College.

The ordinance authorizes the county to borrow for capital repairs, paving, classroom improvements, academic facility retrofitting, and communications improvements, among other upgrades.

According to commissioners director Anthony Fasano, the college has bucked the trend of enrollment decreases that have been plaguing the state’s community colleges. Community colleges throughout the state have been seeing decreases of 4 to 12 percent, he said.

But the college’s enrollment has not been growing, he said. It has remained flat, showing a zero percent decrease.

The ordinance will come up for a second reading and a public hearing on April 6.
